Quitters!

Quitters!

The Florida primaries are over, and we now know that John Edwards and Rudy Giuliani have decided to pack it in. Here’s a sample of what your friends and neighbors across the country are saying about all that hoo-ha:

At Blog for Arizona, “Edwards Calls it Quits, I Lose My Vote”: And then there were two... I guess we're going to find out if America is ready for a female or black President this cycle.”

In Texas at the Burnt Orange Report, it’s the comments that tell the story:

Lord, let him endorse Obama. . . I remember how badly the Party fell apart under the Clintons. How many millions of dollars did we throw away on TV ads with Bill's media based strategy? We'll lose so much of the progress we've made if the Clintons get back in. I was an Edwards man from day one but I'm backing Obama now--Michael McPhail

I would have said that at one time. . . But Edwards' issues are closer in line with HRC's. Universal healthcare for one. And I have additional concerns with Obama in a General Election. But that's for another day.
I know it may be dramatic, but it's the truth ~ today I cried

As far as I am concerned. . .both candidates will have a tough sell with their national health care plans once elected b/c there will still be conservative Republicans in Congress and other types like Joe Lieberman who tends to vote more on the GOP side now. We might win big in 2008 but all of the conservatives won't just go away and they will fight like dogs to block anything they deem remotely "liberal."

I guess my question is which candidate is more married to the self-interest groups and lobbyists in this regard? What will he/she have to compromise with these powerful groups to pull off health care? I don't see lobbyists disappearing in January 2009, either--Libby Shaw

In the mid-west, Indiana's Fort Wayne Observed observes:
Mr. Edwards was not a prolific fundraiser in northeastern Indiana. Only 6 individuals in the 3rd Congressional District of Indiana had donated to his campaign by the close of the last reporting period.

In this quick glance around our Placeblogosphere, there doesn’t seem to be much being said about Rudy. Maybe nobody cares enough to blog about it. . .just a though. . .
