What's Love Got to Do With It? Placeblogs on Valentine's Day

Today may be Valentine’s Day, but four of placebloggers from West Coast to East have lots more than lovesongs, nothing but lovesongs, on their minds....

Out at the West Seattle Blog local java joint HotWire Coffee was featured on local TV this a.m. for their Wall of sweeties and the Valentines left for them! HotWire is one of 20 spots on tonight's W. Seattle Art Walk. So, no excuse not to get out, if you live in W. Seattle...

Meanwhile....Richmond, VA's Read, Drink and Be Merry notes the birth of a Lulu's, a new brunch restaurant.

Just love his take on the shrimp and grits: "The Shrimp & Grits were very nice (this coming from me, a non-fan of grits). Finn thought it a bit too spicy so I ate most of it. The shrimp were nice and firm, not overcooked albeit a tad oily. The grits were almost done like a version of a potato pancake. The reduced moisture firmed them up and they soaked up the spices of the dish. Very nice." (makes me hungry just thinking about it...)

Down in Florida, Coconout Grove Grapevine notes that today there will be an "official City Commission Hearing to change the Grove bar closings to 3 am, rather than 5 am: "While the Grove is starting to turn around and new businesses are arriving, we are not there yet and I don't see how being smug and bullying the current businesses is a good thing. Look what happened to Josiah on American Idol when he tried to be smug." but there's more to the issue than just closing the bars.

And lest we forget we're still trapped in Presidential Primary season, Casey Quinlan at Mighty Casey Media Mighty Mouth Blog reminds us (not just about her impending chemo) to think about our candidates: Once you pick one...is he, or she, electable? That's what this long, muddy slog toward the first Tuesday in November is purportedly about. I have to admit, though, that as I watch this horse race, I'm thinking less Lincoln, "To give victory to the right, not bloody bullets, but peaceful ballots only, are necessary", more Barnum, "There's a sucker born every minute."
